NSH Student Art on Display in Downtown Noblesville

Thanks to Community Collaboration Noblesville Schools announced that Noblesville High School (NHS)  student artwork will be featured on downtown Noblesville light post banners thanks to a

partnership between the school district, City of Noblesville, Noblesville Main Street, Nickel Plate

Arts and Logan Street Signs and Banners.

Art from 25 students was chosen to be included in the banner project, which was funded

through Nickel Plate Arts and Noblesville Main Street. The City oversaw the coordination of the

project and Logan Street Signs and Banners printed the artwork banners at a significantly

reduced rate to support the student artists.

NHS art teacher Kayti Hahn actively highlights the work of her students through community

outreach and approached the city with the banner idea as an extension of this effort.

“It’s important to me that we showcase student artwork outside of school to give our artists an

authentic learning experience and to build community awareness of the arts,” said Hahn. “The

students feel very privileged to have this opportunity and are so excited to share their creativity

publicly. I’m thankful for our partners in this endeavor.”

As a sponsor of the activity, Noblesville Main Street sees the value that promoting the arts in

Noblesville can bring.

“This walking art gallery will bring attention to the wonderful student artists we have and

showcase their talent in a uniquely Noblesville way,” shared Chris Owens, executive director of

Noblesville Main Street. “The banners create an exciting visual display of public art for the

enjoyment of residents and visitors.”

In addition to artwork, each unique banner also includes the student’s name and graduating

class. Since the project has been in the works since last year, artwork from 2015 NHS graduates

is also included in the display.

What's Happening at NHS: Sculpture 2

Our new class, Sculpture 2, it taking off at full speed this year with the exploration of Material Culture.  What what does that mean?  Material Culture consists of the network of objects, artifacts, and "things" that shape our world around us.  Imagine how the people of the future would define us just by the objects of our culture.  What would they say?  How would our voice be represented?

Sculpture 2 students were challenged with the task of designing a complete 3D composition using their choice of materials that best represented THEIR VOICE through the "network of material things" in their world.

What defines us?

How do we make meaning of the world around us?

How do we, as artists, choose the best vehicle for our voices to be heard?
