Art History AP is a chronological survey that provides a general knowledge of art history, which is achieved through lecture, class discussion, and project-oriented experiences. Although the primary purpose of this course is to help students develop a better understanding and appreciation of visual art by exploring its evolution throughout human history, it emphasizes understanding of works in context, considering such issues as geographical, cultural, social, political, and religious factors that strongly influence the making of art. In addition, students will explore different styles and movements in art; increase their skills in observing works of art, analyzing design qualities, interpreting meanings, and making informed decisions about the aesthetic merit and value of works of art.

Prerequisite: None
• A Core 40 and AHD course with standards defined
• A two credit course; weighted grading scale
Course may be used to fulfill one component of the Core 40 with Academic Honors diploma if the AP exam is taken
